Why I Listen To Heavy Metal?

Why I Listen To Heavy Metal?

Loud. Defiant. Intense. That’s heavy metal for you, a genre of rock music characterized by its thick, massive sound, heavy distortion, and guitar solos. That’s exactly the choice of music I prefer listening to during my physical training. There’s no other music genre that could bring the intensity in my workout and perform my best. It flows deep inside me and gives rise to my pure, compelling emotions that wipe out any negativity that lurks within the darkest pit of my humanity.

Like any other music, heavy metal has different sub-genres. Examples of these are traditional metal, progressive metal, symphonic metal, power metal, thrash metal, Gothic metal, and death metal to name a few. Each sub-genres have a distinctive style that separates it from other heavy metal genres: tempo, vocals, musical instruments, lyrics, and melody.

Having said that, not all heavy metals are fit for me. Death metal, doom metal, black metal, and the likes are too extreme for me being a Christian. Instead, I prefer my heavy metal to be fast, catchy, motivational, and sometimes cheesy. Bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Beast in Black, Battle Beast, Sabaton, Amaranthe, The Unguided, InnerWish are some of the metal groups that I dig into. Having those vigorously signature male vocals, the melodic voice of female vocals, the heavy riffs, and the symphonic sound of classical instruments, made their music more appealing to people who aren’t into heavy metal.

Not everyone would favor these kinds of music — loud, powerful, and aggressive. Well, everyone is different. The first time I’ve heard heavy metal, I had goosebumps. Since then, I’ve searched the internet for different metal bands across the globe. Listening to them brings out a certain character in me that feels like I’m being unique, powerful, and confident with my incomparable personality.
